But John Muir wanted one thing more than anything else right now—the recession of the Yosemite grant, to make that special place whole.

Muir was certainly glad he had postponed his trip to spend time with Roosevelt. “Camping with the president was a remarkable experience,” Muir told Merriam. “I fairly fell in love with him.”12
